High Interest Low Maintenance

The need for visual privacy between this condo bungalow and the newly built houses adjacent to it was the primary objective of this plan. There was a lack of visual privacy within the yard and from within the condo itself. A low privacy screen along the property line and careful tree placement closer to the condo windows and deck resolved the problem.

Low maintenance plants which do not attract wasps were also important. A combination of evergreen and seed producing plants were selected, particularly those which retain their seed heads throughout the winter. The undulating beds add interest and rhythm within the yard, and their shape allows for fast, easy access by a power lawn mower. After a brief spring clean-up, the plants get on with a good show for the rest of the year, all on their own.
