Winter Garden

As a wintertime lover, this was a dream come true project. The clients spend their summer away at the lake, and wanted their city backyard developed to create a interesting view during the fall and winter, as well as provide a comfy place for visiting birds.

A central feature bed helps to visually expand the space just outside the primary viewing window, and allows for a concentrated planting of perennials and shrubs which produce interesting seed heads. A few trees were retained to house bird feeders, and several low maintenance shrubs were added for bird shelter.

The yard beyond the primary viewing window is developed in a naturalistic style, with mass plantings of ground covers, grasses, and low shrubs planted to trick the eye into believing that the space is larger than it actually is.
